Your Journey Towards Health and Healing
Therapeutic Approach

Jennifer utilizes a mind-body approach to therapy to be able to fully address symptoms and disturbances of various conditions that have been caused by trauma. Just the fact that we are human means that we have at one time or another experienced a “trauma”. These “traumas” can be large or small disturbances and can distort one’s understanding, experiences, behaviors, and relationships. We also now know that trauma is “in the body” and not “in the event”. Which means that an event or experience could cause a dysregulated Nervous System or Post -traumatic Stress in one person but not another.

So many behaviors (addictions, distorted eating, cutting, and other self-harm behaviors) people have are management strategies for a dysregulated Nervous System. This dysregulation can come from earlier life stressors (many are preverbal or in utero and can be the result of events such as hospitalizations, surgeries, and medical procedures) and attachment disturbances. We are also learning that“Epigenetics” play a powerful role as trauma can be passed down genetically and environmental stressors can affect gene expression and “flip the switch on”.
Jennifer’s therapeutic approach will assist in decreasing disturbances and distortions caused by trauma and will lead to one’s increased capacity and resiliency to live out a more authentic life. Jennifer’s Christian faith informs her understanding of God’s love and grace for humanity and his redemptive work.
Services Offered
EMDR Therapy
Somatic Experiencing®
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.
Somatic Experiencing ® is a body-oriented model to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders. The Somatic Experiencing ® offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight, or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. Trauma may begin as acute stress from a perceived life threat or as the end product of cumulative stress. Both types of stress can seriously impair a person’s ability to function with resilience and ease. Trauma may result from a wide variety of stressors such as accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the corrosive stressors of ongoing fear and conflict.
